Jacques Villeneuve joins V8 Supercars at Townsville

1997 Formula One champion Jacques Villeneuve is going to take part in the V8 Supercars round at Townsville on July 6.
“It is a really last-minute thing but something that really excites me,” said Villeneuve to Adelaidenow.

Villeneuve is going to drive for the Pepsi Max Crew team, replacing the injured Greg Murphy. The deal is so far for just one race, but could be extended.
“I certainly want to do more, because this is a proper racing series. I like the V8s because it is not a support series, it is the real thing. The main attraction. So yes, going to race in the series full-time is definitely something I would be interested in,” said Villeneuve.

The Canadian has mainly raced in the NASCAR Nationwide Series for the past few years but has dipped his toes in the V8 Supercars before, in the 2010 Cold Coast 600.
