David Reynolds fastest in Friday practice at Sandown

Ford Performance Racing’s David Reynolds set a time of 1:10.5812 to see him and co-driver Dean Canto finish fastest after Friday’s three Sandown 500 practice sessions. The time was set in the third practice session, which was disrupted by rain.

Championship leader Jamie Whincup and co-driver Paul Dumbrell finished the day in second for Team Vodafone. Ford Performance Racing also claimed third after Friday practice, with Will Davison and John McIntyre setting their fastest time of the day in practice three.

Finishing in fourth were the Team Vodafone pairing of Craig Lowndes and Warren Luff. Mark Winterbottom and co-driver Steven Richards rounded out the top five for Ford Performance Racing. Winterbottom’s time of 1:10.6974 was set in practice one, in which he topped the timesheets.

Paul Dumbrell was the fastest of the co-drivers in practice two. The Team Vodafone driver set a time of 1:10.9915 to finish at the top of the timesheets at the end of the session, which was for co-drivers only.

All three sessions were interrupted by a red flag, with the first for the removal of the dislodged new kerb speed humps at turn 12 during practice one. David Besnard bought out the second red flag in practice two after making contact with the tyre wall at turn six. This caused a lengthy delay to the session as the car was retrieved, with significant front end damage meaning that the Commodore did not participate in the final practice session. As was the case in practice two, practice three was also disrupted by rain, with a short red flag period for the retrieval of Steve Owen’s Falcon, which had stopped at turn four.

The final practice Sandown 500 practice session will be held on Saturday at 9:40 AEST (0:25 BST).
