Whincup and Bourdais claim another Gold Coast pole
Jamie Whincup and Sébastien Bourdais have secured pole position for the Sunday’s 300km race at the Gold Coast, with Mark Winterbottom and Will Power also on the front row.
The session was stopped five times, with three red flags bought out for debris on the circuit, the fourth flag to shift the Turn 1 tyre bundle back into place and the final for the retrieval of Michael Patrizi’s Tekno Autosports Commodore from Turn 11.
Whincup’s best time was set before the final red flag as was the time of second placed Mark Winterbottom. After a second place finish in Saturday’s Gold Coast race Tekno Autosports’ Jonathon Webb qualified in third for the Sunday race. Will Davison qualified in fourth for Ford Performance Racing ahead of Kelly Racing’s Rick Kelly in fifth.
The field was reduced to 25 cars for the session with the #3, #11 and #33 cars not taking part in today’s race after damage sustained in Saturday’s start line crashes.
The race starts at 13:40 AEST.
