Winterbottom ahead of Whincup in Winton qualifying

Mark Winterbottom secured pole position at Winton, only 0.157 seconds ahead of championship leader Jamie Whincup. With just a few minutes left of the session, Whincup seemed to be on the way to snatch pole with a faster first sector, only to drop back towards the end of the lap.

Third was Jason Bright ahead of Shane van Gisbergen and James Moffatt. Lee Holdsworth was sixth, only just ahead of Fabian Coulthard and James Courney.

Rick Kelly and David Reynolds rounded off the top ten, with the top duo’s team mates Craig Lowndes and Will Davison only managing 15th and 16th respectively.
