James Strong new V8 Supercars chairman

James Strong replaces Tony Cochrane as the new chairman of V8 Supercars. Cochrane announced his retirement earlier this year and the Australian has been with the championship since the formation of the current brand 16 years ago.

“V8 Supercars is without doubt the leading motorsport category in this region and a force worldwide. I look forward to contributing to the next phase of the V8 Supercars development and growth,” said Strong.

Strong, who has been director of the Australian Grand Prix, takes over as the V8 Supercars gets four manufacturers for 2013 with Ford, Holden and newcomers Nissan and Mercedes.

“The sport is in wonderful shape for the future and I want to play an active part in the next period of evolution; the potential is unlimited,” said Strong.
