Casey Stoner confirmed for V8 Supercars
Double MotoGP champion Casey Stoner is going to join the Dunlop V8 Supercar development series this season according The Sunday Mail.
“Since I was 12, I’ve always been interested in it. It was always my plan during my whole career to drive a V8,” said Stoner.
The 27-year-old retired from MotoGP after the 2012 season and is going to focus on racing with four wheels.
“I’ve got no thoughts whatsoever at this time of ever even thinking of coming back to grand prix racing. I’m not changing my mind every couple of minutes. The money doesn’t interest me,” said Stoner.
Stoner is going drive for Triple Eight Racing in the development series of the V8 Supercars with number 27 on his car, the very same number he had when clinching his MotoGP titles.
“It’s now the new chapter in my career but I have to be realistic and see if we’re capable of doing anything,” said Stoner.
The Australian tested for Triple Eight late last year, where he was reported to be about two seconds from the 2012 pole time at Queensland Raceway, and is set for a new test at Sydney Motorsport Park in February.
“I see no reason at all why Casey shouldn’t be very competitive in a V8 Supercar. When you have spent most of your life away chasing your dreams, you have to work pretty hard at it. I think Casey has developed a steely determination to succeed at anything he does,” said Roland Dane, Triple Eight Racing Team Manager.
Stoner’s V8 debut is going to take place at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide on March the 3rd, it has not been confirmed if he is going to do a full season or selected races.
