Jason Bright and Holden on top in first 2013 test

Jason Bright and Holden dominated the first official V8 Supercars test session of the year at Sydney Motorsport Park. The Team BOC driver comfortably beat the previous practice lap record of 1:29.2493 with his 1:28.9655 in the COTF Holden VF Commodore.

Holden claimed the top four positions, with Fabian Coulthard in second, just 0.0402 seconds behind Bright in the combined times from the three different practice sessions. Craig Lowndes and Dean Fiore followed in third and fourth.

Rick Kelly made a strong impression in the Nissan Altima, breaking in to the top five, just under seven tenths from the fastest time of the session.

Best of the Ford drivers was David Reynolds in eighth position, right ahead of manufacturer colleague Mark Winterbottom in ninth. The duo was 1.5 seconds behind the top time, separated by just 0.068 seconds.

V8 Supercar newcomer Maro Engel was fastest of the two Mercedes E63 AMG cars in 14th position, 1.8 seconds from Bright’s time.

The afternoon session was interrupted by brief rain showers, limiting the time of the teams on track. A total of 18 000 spectators made their way to watch the test.

Next up is the season premiere at Adelaide in two weeks time and a number of teams have private testing sessions planned ahead of that.
