Double victory for Fabian Coulthard in Melbourne

Fabian Coulthard secured a double victory in the second race of the day at Melbourne. Just as in the first race, Coulthard had to fight back in to the lead after the pitstop. Fellow Holden driver Craig Lowndes got in to the lead but was unable to defend from Coulthard’s attack on lap three.

Lowndes finished second, two seconds behind Coulthard, with Team BOC driver Jason Bright taking the final podium position in third.

Lowndes and Bright made contact during the pitstop and the stewards have announced that the clash between the two will be investigated after the race.

First race podium finisher Will Davison crossed the line in fourth after a late pitstop on lap eight. James Moffat scored the so far best Nissan finish in fifth position, ahead of Scott McLaughlin, Holden, and David Reynolds, Ford.

Todd Kelly made it two Nissans in the top ten in eighth position ahead of a charging Shane van Gisbergen in ninth. The Tekno Motorsports driver started from the back of the grid after retiring from the first race with gearbox problems.

Another driver on a charge from the back of the grid was Mark Winterbottom. The Pepsi Max Crew FPR Ford driver was penalised in the first race for an unsafe pit release, starting from 25th on the grid in the second race to finish 12th behind James Courtney and Jonathon Webb.

The Melbourne weekend features four non-championship races with the third race set for Saturday with the grid order set by the results of this race.
