Van Gisbergen wins wet race three in Melbourne

Shane Van Gisbergen was untouchable in the third V8 Supercars race of the weekend in Melbourne on a soaking wet track.
“It started raining and everybody kept saying ‘you love the wet’. But I hate it as much as anyone else. Your boots get wet and it’s not fun but I seem to go well in it. I can’t tell you what it is but I can’t hate it that much I guess,” said Van Gisbergen.

The Tekno Autosports driver started ninth but started to climb the field quickly. The slippery conditions saw the Holden driver getting up in to the lead, passing Fabian Coulthard, only to go off track and drop to third.

Van Gisbergen got up in to second a lap later and snatched the lead as Craig Lowndes made a mistake. The Holden driver crossed the finishing line a full 12 seconds ahead of Lowndes in the end with Jonathon Webb in third.

Coulthard crossed the line in fourth after being off track once again, ahead of David Reynolds and Jason Bright.

James Courtney and Will Davison occupied positions seven and eight, with three Nissan drivers battling for positions nine to eleven. Michael Caruso claimed ninth ahead of manufacturer colleagues and brothers Todd Kelly in tenth and Rick Kelly in eleventh.
