Tyre allocation reduced to save money for V8 Supercars teams

The V8 Supercars organisation has reduced the tyre allocation for seven of the remaining races of the 2013 season to save money for the teams.
“The changes save a significant amount of money for the teams without negatively affecting the show. It’ll put a bit of a premium on intelligent tyre management at a couple of the events,” said V8 Supercars Commission member Chris Lambden to speedcafe.com.

The reduction is expected to save an estimated 600 000 Australian dollars combined for the teams, with the softer compound of the Dunlop tyres taking the majority of the reduction.
“We haven’t touched the longer events like Bathurst but certainly some of the sprint races, particularly the ones with the 60/60 format, had a little bit of fat in the original tyre allocation,” said Lambden.

One set of the softer tyres has been removed from the races at Symmons Plains, Barbagallo, Queensland Raceway and Winton. Two sets have been removed from the race at Surfers Paradise, Philip Island and Townsville.
