James Courtney: “Too early for parity talk”

Holden Racing Team driver James Courtney has stated in a column at Drive.com.au that it is too early to talk about parity despite the domination of the Holden Commodore in the first V8 Supercars races of 2013.

“I think it’s much too early for any parity adjustments in V8 Supercars, despite Holden dominating results leading up to this week’s second championship round in Tasmania,” wrote Courtney.

“Some people may think I’m biased because I drive for the Holden Racing Team, but we need to see more races under the new “Car of the Future” regulations before accurate parity assessments can be made.”

The Holden teams have claimed all six victories so far this year and competing teams and drivers from Ford, Nissan and Mercedes have been behind on pace.

“I believe early-season results have been influenced by teams being at different stages of their development programs. The Nissan and Mercedes AMG programs are probably behind Holden and Ford, which is understandable as they had to design and build new cars and engines and do everything else from “scratch”.

“This means the newcomers are likely to make big steps forward as they catch up.”
