Craig Lowndes drops to fourth in standings after penalty

Triple Eight Race Engineering’s Craig Lowndes has dropped from second to fourth in the drivers’ standings after being given a 25 point penalty after contact with Michael Caruso’s Nissan in race three at Winton.

Lowndes made contact with Caruso’s Nissan on the final lap of the race whilst battling for tenth position at Turn 10, which saw Caruso’s car out of the race and into the barriers.

After admitting to careless driving, the stewards have imposed a 25 point penalty on Lowndes in the championship which drops him behind the two Ford Performance Racing drivers in the standings.

The revised standings mean Whincup leads with 1847 points with FPR’s Will Davison on 1792, Mark Winterbottom on 1777 and Lowndes now just two points behind on 1775.
