Aiden Moffat acquires IP Tech Race’s Chevrolet Cruze for 2014
17-year-old Aiden Moffat plans to enter next year’s British Touring Car Championship with the Next Generation Touring Car (NGTC) specification Chevrolet Cruze built by RML and IP Tech Race Engineering.
The Scottish driver took part in the Knockhill round of the BTCC this season, driving for Finesse Motorsport in their S2000-specificiation Chevrolet, before finishing off the season in Tony Gilham Racing’s NGTC-spec Volkswagen CC at Silverstone and Brands Hatch.
Moffat’s family-run team will run the car, with Rick Howson joining as team co-ordinator.
“We have examined the car and evaluated it to the finest degree,” said team owner Bob Moffat to btcc.net. “It is clear that this can be a very competitive car with further development from the team and Aiden. We think that it is the ideal base for the team and that Aiden will show people what he is all about next year.”
Moffat finished second in this year’s Scottish Fiesta ST Cup, winning nine of the final ten races of the season, finishing just six points behind George Orr in the standings who had a stronger start to the season.
The young driver, who became the youngest driver ever to race in the BTCC when he made his debut at Knockhill, taking that record away from now WTCC frontrunner Tom Chilton, said:
“There is no point me turning up to run at the rear of the field,” he said. “I only race to win, and I hope to do that at some point in the Cruze – it is a fantastic car.”
Andy Neate’s IP Tech Race Engineering team have previously announced plans to build a further two NGTC-spec Chevrolet Cruzes to compete in next year’s Championship.
