Michael Caruso takes first Nissan pole of 2014
Michael Caruso put Nissan on pole position for the first time in 2014 at the first V8 Supercars Championship race in Melbourne. The Nissan driver was the only driver to go beneath one minute and 56 seconds with a time of 1:55.8313, beating the Tekno Autosports Holden of Shane Van Gisbergen by almost two tenths of a second.
Scott McLaughlin made it three manufacturers in the top three driving for Volvo Polestar Racing, 0.2341 seconds from pole position.
Reigning champion Jamie Whincup missed out on the top three by a mere 0.0417 seconds and will line up fourth on the grid for the first race ahead of Todd Kelly’s Nissan in fifth and Triple Eight Race Engineering team-mate Craig Lowndes in sixth position.
Brad Jones Racing’s Fabian Coulthard was seventh fastest ahead of the third best placed Nissan of James Moffat in eighth. Jason Bright took his newly repaired Brad Jones Racing Holden Commodore to ninth on the grid after his huge roll in the opening race weekend in Adelaide two weeks ago.
Garth Tander rounded out the top ten in his HRT Commodore, just ahead of V8 Supercars newcomer Robert Dahlgren in eleventh position for Volvo.
The first race starts at 11.00 local time tomorrow. The grid order for the remaining three races are decided by the finishing order of the previous races.
