Michael Caruso signs multi-year extension with Nissan

Michael Caruso has signed a new deal with Nissan Motorsport, which sees the 31-year-old continue with the Japanese marque, finalising the team’s four drivers for 2015, with James Moffat and team owner/driver pair Rick and Todd Kelly already confirmed to drive next year.

Caruso is Nissan’s top placed driver in the standings in 12th, with two top five finishes, and was close to scoring his first win with Nissan at Queensland Raceway until he made contact with Scott McLaughlin’s Volvo. Caruso’s only career victory to date came in 2009 while driving with Garry Rogers Motorsport, from where he joined Nissan as they began their V8 Supercars Championship campaign in 2013.

“I’m very excited. It’s fantastic that I can stay along this path with Nissan,” said Caruso.

“We’ve put a lot of hard work into the team in the past couple of years and I know we have a great deal of success ahead of us.

“The team is currently going through some changes on the commercial front,” he added, referring to the recent withdrawal of title sponsor Norton Security at the end of 2014, “but the great thing is that the guys came to me straight away and locked me away. That was extremely comforting and it’s great that they had me in the forefront of their mind.”

“It’s great to have my future secure, but I’ve still got this season to worry about. I’m currently 12th and one point off 11th and I’d love to finish inside the top ten in the championship. That is definitely achievable, but it’s not going to come easy. We have to make it happen.”
