Greg Murphy tops co-driver only second practice at Bathurst
Greg Murphy put the #22 Holden Racing Team Commodore on top in the final moments of a close-fought second practice session at the Mount Panorama circuit, finishing ahead of the Triple Eight Race Engineering Holden of Steve Richards, with Luke Youlden third for Brad Jones Racing.
Two cars were forced to miss the session due to damage sustained during FP1, with the #17 Dick Johnson Racing Ford Falcon of Steven Johnson, and the #18 Charlie Schwerkolt Racing Ford of Cameron Waters both being repaired.
The #34 Volvo Polestar Racing S60 of Greg Ritter also missed the majority of the session due to an engine change after FP1, and a short turnaround between FP1 and FP2, with Ritter only able to set the 19th fastest time in what was effectively a shakedown run.
Tony D’Alberto led the way for the first half of the session in the #10 Walkinshaw Racing Holden Commodore (running with #10 this weekend instead of #47 in commemoration of title sponsor Super Cheap Auto Racing’s tenth year of sponsoring the event).
With 20 minutes to go, Ashley Walsh then displaced D’Alberto for first in the only Dick Johnson Racing car taking part in the session, before Steve Owen put the Ford Performance Racing Falcon on the top spot with just over ten minutes to go, but was almost immediately displaced by Dean Canto in the sister-team Rod Nash Racing Ford Falcon.
The red flag was then flown with five minutes to go after Andre Heimgartner spun the wild card Super Black Racing entry at McPhillamy Park. When the session resumed, with two laps available for everyone, Greg Murphy went fastest in the #22 Holden Commodore, before Steven Richards went even faster in the Triple Eight Holden, however Murphy improved again on his second lap and left the session with the fastest time of 2:08.5365.
The final practice of the day gets underway at 15:10 AEST, with all drivers allowed to take part in the 50 minute session.
