Ford 1-2 in Melbourne qualifying
Prodrive Racing Australia drivers Mark Winterbottom and Chaz Mostert secured a Ford 1-2 in qualifying for the first V8 Supercars race in Melbourne.
Winterbottom claimed pole with just 0.0256 seconds ahead of his team mate Mostert. The Falcon duo was close to three tenths faster than the closest competitor in the form of Holden Racing Team driver James Courtney.
David Reynolds secured three Fords in the top five in fourth position, driving the older specification Falcon.
Shane Van Gisbergen claimed fifth position on the grid for Tekno Autosports ahead of Volvo Polestar Racing driver Scott McLaughlin in sixth position.
Fabian Coulthard and Tim Slade rounded off the top eight, while reigning champion Jamie Whincup only managed ninth fastest time ahead of the fastest Nissan driver in the form of Todd Kelly in tenth position.
Two races of 12 laps are scheduled tomorrow with the first one starting at 14:20 local time.
