Andy Priaulx enjoying being back in the British weather

Andy Priaulx is excited to get back in to the swing of things in the British Touring Car Championship after setting the sixth fastest time in the opening practice session of the year at Brands Hatch.

The West Surrey Racing driver, who steps in to the BMW 125i seat of 2014 champion Colin Turkington, loved his first session back in the series for the first time 2002.

“It’s great to be back, these are my first laps in a long time in British Touring Cars and the track’s greasy, just how I remember it,” Priaulx told TouringCarTimes. “I’m happy to be back. Testing’s gone well for me and I’m looking forward to getting stuck in again with these guys, it should be fun.”

The three-time World Touring Car champion was even happy to see the traditional British weather at the Kent circuit, with a greasy, drying track setting the scene for Free Practice 1.

“Those were really difficult conditions. I didn’t get a solid read on the car because of the changeable conditions. FP2 I hope will be dry and more consistent for us, but that’s touring car racing and that’s racing in Britain so I’m looking forward to it. I love all those changeable conditions, it’s really interesting and very hard as well.”

Looking further ahead for the remainder of the weekend, Priaulx refused to rule out a trip to the top step, but admitted that it wasn’t going to be how he ranked his weekend come Sunday afternoon.

“I’m not limiting myself to a podium and I’m not going to say I’m going to win a race,” he concluded. “I’m just going to do the best I can and the sky’s the limit, so let’s see what’s possible.”
