Liqui Moly Team Engstler to enter TCR Asia Series
Liqui Moly Team Engstler made important improvements compared to the Sepang curtain raiser. Meanwhile, they also announced they will take part in the upcoming TCR Asia Series with two cars, with a possibility to expand to three during the season.
“Already we have two drivers confirmed, and we look forward to revealing a third driver in the near future,” said team principal Franz Engstler. The German is a double Asian Touring Car Series champion, and hopes for more glory:”Personally I have enjoyed great success in Asia in the past, and I hope that we can relive that success in TCR Asia Series this year.” The Asian season will begin at Zhuhai, China, on August, 14th.
Engstler is also racing with his Audi TT this weekend in Shanghai, China, in the International Series.
“We progress and are heading on the right direction but we still have a lot of oversteer, especially in the three very fast corners. We still haven’t the smooth feel which makes driving nice, the car is quite brisk, with oversteer coming all of a sudden.”
Lorenzo Veglia is the only driver in the team in a SEAT León Racer. The Italian is getting to grips with the car and is making steady improvements: “It’s starting to come together. Compared to Sepang, where we were three seconds off the pace, we are now a little bit less than a second down, so it means we are improving and the hard work is paying off.”
Veglia said the track is very dirty off the line:”I had a couple of smoking brakings, because the brake bias wasn’t ideal, but we’ll sort it. Also, the track was very dirty on the sides, it was scary to go off, even slightly, the right line.”
Action resumes tomorrow morning at 9.45 local time for the TCR International Series.
