Garth Tander labels clash with James Courtney as ”stupid”

Holden Racing Team mates Garth Tander and James Courtney had a nightmare start to the second V8 Supecars race at Winton Motor Raceway. Courtney braked too late and eliminated his team mate in the first corner, as well as taking out Lee Holdsworth.

“But it’s happened before and it’ll happen again and at some point. The most important thing is that we make the cars fast for tomorrow and when you’re closer to the front hopefully stupid things like that don’t happen,” said Tander to v8supercars.com.au.

Tander did not initially see that it was Courtney that took him out, but noticed the damage to his team mate’s car while walking back to the pits.

“All I know is I got whacked in the rear and turned around. By the time I got out of the car and started watching the race I could see that another car painted very similar to mine had damage on the front,” said Tander.

Courtney received a drive through penalty for the incident and was fast to apologise to his team mate after the race.

”It is my fault. I got into the junk and then took my team mate out. Massive apologies to Garth and all the boys,” said Courtney after the race.
