Jordi Gené happy with maiden TCR pole position
Despite seeing his best lap time disallowed, Jordi Gené was able to grab pole position for Craft-Bamboo Lukoil in Russia. The Spaniard’s second best lap time was enough to hand him the result.
Speaking of his performance, Gené said: “The car performed perfectly from the very first moment on this track and it’s nice to conquer my first pole. My best lap was cancelled, but my second best was enough to grant pole.”
The Spaniard believes tomorrow’s races will not be easy, due to the width and speed of the track: “Races will be another story, as this is a fast track where it is easy to overtake.”
Gené also confirmed the difficulties of the track, particularly over track limits: “Really, it is very difficult to know when you are off the track limits, you really have to target sharply the correct line to stay legal.”
The Spaniard gained five points with his pole position, which leaves him 36 points behind championship leader Gianni Morbidelli.
