Gianni Morbidelli stopped by turbo problems in Race 2

Gianni Morbidelli lost the lead of the championship in Sochi, Russia, after the Italian finished seventh in Race 1 and suffered from turbo problems in Race 2, which prevented the WestCoast Racing driver from even starting.

Speaking of his weekend, Morbidelli admitted: “I can only say that Sochi is a weekend to forget. We have suffered from a lack of competitiveness all weekend long, and unfortunately the turbo issue meant I could not defend the championship lead in Race 2.”

The reliability problem emerged in Race 1 with a handful of laps to go: “I realized I had a turbo issue with two or three laps to go in the first race and I honestly thought I wouldn’t have made it to the finish line, which would have made things even worse as in this championship even a single point is important.”

The Italian already looks forward to Austria: “The amount of work the team has put in would have deserved to see me at the start of the second race, but it just wasn’t possible to solve the problem. We will have to show up at the Red Bull Ring more motivated than ever, and we must not make any mistakes.”

Morbidelli now sits third in the championship, 13 points shy of Stefano Comini.
