Jordi Gené hails fantastic Sochi race

Jordi Gené took a lights to flag win in Race 1 for Craft-Bamboo Lukoil Racing. The Spaniard managed to keep team-mate Pepe Oriola behind him for the entire race, and enjoyed driving his León Racer in Sochi.

“The race was just fantastic, everything went as planned and the SEAT cars seemed to like this track a lot,” confirmed the Spaniard. “Having Pepe Oriola behind me gave me some confidence that he wouldn’t do anything silly that could jeopardize a good team result, something very important here, in the home track of our sponsor.”

Despite having his team-mate behind, Gené did not feel safe, especially under braking, where his team-mate seemed to perform better than him: “He was better in some parts of the circuit, and I was in others, so nothing was easy. I think my brakes balance wasn’t ideal and that showed mostly in turn 14, where Pepe could brake much later, gaining almost 40 meters. I feared he could take a tow there and pass me but luckily, that didn’t happen.”

With 40 points scored this weekend, Jordi Gené is still fourth in the championship, but his gap from the leader Stefano Comini is now down to 20 points.
