Stefano Comini delighted after Sochi win
Stefano Comini took a spectacular win in Race 2 in Sochi, Russia, also climbing back to the points lead in the process. The Target Competition driver is happy with his performance.
“A great weekend for me, as I was able to retake the leadership in the championship, I am really happy,” said the Swiss. “My objective arriving here was to take heavy points, so I can be happy. Race 2 was really funny, I hope also for those who were watching.”
Talking about Race 2, Comini was surprised to see the great start Liqui Moly Team Engstler’s Mikhail Grachev pulled off: “I took a perfect start, but Mikhail Grachev did even better, I was really surprised to see him passing everybody at the first corner. I could pass and take the lead a couple of laps later.”
The Swiss admits he struggled with his tyres soon after he overtook the Russian: “That was the right moment [to overtake], as I then started to struggle a bit with my tires. I found the circuit different when you are racing, as opposed to practice or qualifying. It’s challenging on tires and it’s not so easy to overtake.”
Comini, who completed today’s show by doing reverse donuts to celebrate his third win of the year, leaves Russia with a tiny lead of two points ahead of Craft-Bamboo Lukoil Racing’s Pepe Oriola.
