Triple Eight Racing eye podium results at Croft

Triple Eight Racing will be aiming to continue to take podium results as the BTCC heads north for the halfway stage of the season at Croft.

Andrew Jordan and Jack Goff have totalled five podiums between them in the two MG6s of Triple Eight Racing, with Jordan enjoying his strongest weekend of the year at Oulton Park. The 2013 champion took a trio of top four results, including two podiums around the Cheshire circuit.

The brace of podiums helped Jordan cement his place in the top five heading in to Croft, sitting just 13 points behind series leader Jason Plato, meaning he will carry 48kgs of success ballast. Croft has been kind to the 26-year-old in the past, so Jordan will be hoping he can finally break his duck with Triple Eight and take his first win in an MG.

“The weekend we had at Oulton Park has given me a nice confidence boost and I’ll be driving slightly more relaxed,” said Jordan. “Oulton was the first weekend this season where we rolled out and within two corners into the first lap of free practice one I knew we were in the ball park. Now we have a base set-up that we will use this weekend and it will be somewhere near the ultimate pace which is good.”

“The MG6 has moved on in the past year and it is very good on both the soft and medium tyres so I head there feeling very confident that we can challenge towards the front. We’ve got closer to the outright pace and we should be strong through the quicker sections due to the longer wheel base.”

It has been almost twelve months since Jordan stood on top of the BTCC podium, but the MG driver is not concerned, stating that taking points towards the championship is much more important than getting to the top step.

“Croft marks a year since I last won in the BTCC but I’m not worried, it’s not like I’ve forgotten how to win races,” Jordan continued. “Obviously it would be nice to have taken a win or two by now but I’m really not bothered, I’m much more focused on winning a second championship and to do that you need to score points all the time so when the opportunity arises, I’ll win. I love Croft and it holds some special memories for me as I won my first ever BTCC race there and also claimed my first RallyCross win before that.”

Meanwhile, Goff sits eighth in the standings going in to Croft following ten top ten results in the first 12 races. Just 40 points shy of his teammate, Goff will be aiming to improve on his qualifying form and set himself up for three solid results at Croft to round off a steady first half of the season.

“This season has been a consistent one so far and since scoring a podium at Brands Hatch, I have been constantly fighting in the top eight,” said Goff. “I do feel that I haven’t got the best out of qualifying this season and as we know it is vital in the BTCC these days. There are so many quick drivers and teams that anyone in the top 15 can win a race this year so if you qualify 15th you know it’s going to be a hard fought day. I need to make sure I can maximise qualifying and make sure I’m in the top five ideally for a podium at Croft.”
