Stefano Comini and Target Competition face tough Race 2

Despite a positive Race 1, with a 1-2 from Stefano Comini and Andrea Belicchi, the weekend turned black for Target Competition in the second heat, with both their regular drivers suffering from incidents, although in very different ways.

Andrea Belicchi retired due to a stone which punctured the radiator, which sent the temperatures sky high and forced the Italian to get back to the pits and call it a day.

Former championship leader Stefano Comini was hit by WestCoast Racing’s Gianni Morbidelli, who completely lost the brakes at Turn 3 and was forced to send the car into a spin in order to reduce the speed. The Italian was unlucky to collect the SEAT as he was spinning, also picking up a bruised foot in the process.

“Obviously there was nothing I could have done differently, it was really scary,” commented the Honda driver to TouringCarTimes.

Giving his view on the incident, Comini joked: “Morbidelli seems to like the back of my car, he always runs into it!”. However the Swiss was quick to point out that it was a racing incident: “It happens in motorsport, sometimes you’re just unlucky and you have to live with it. As soon as I felt the contact I started thinking about collecting points, but the car wouldn’t go straight even in a straight line.”

As a result, the Swiss spectacularly finished the race on three wheels: “I’ve had to do it several times in my career, so it’s nothing new to me. I did it even though I knew I would have damaged the car even more than it already was, as I know that even the two points I collected today could be crucial in Macau.”

Comini still has budget issues which he is trying to make up for: “I started selling some merchandising, putting up t-shirts on the internet. It’s not a big deal but at least it is a start. After that I will have to look into crowdfunding, it’s the only realistic way I can think about finishing the season.”

The Target Competition driver is second, two points behind Pepe Oriola, the new championship leader.
