Prodrive the ones to beat at the half-way point of the season
Prodrive Racing Australia are enjoying their most competitive showing in the V8 Supercars Championship to date, leading the drivers’ and teams’ championships after seven race meetings, with drivers Mark Winterbottom, Chaz Mostert and David Reynolds having won the last six races for the team which was left without manufacturer support at the start of the season.
Formerly Ford Performance Racing, the separate Australian-owned entity of Prodrive now lead the drivers’ standings with Mark Winterbottom 256 points ahead of Triple Eight Race Engineering’s Craig Lowndes, with six-time champion Jamie Whincup a distant seventh overall.
Prodrive also lead the teams’ championship ahead of Triple Eight, and turned their season around from the third weekend at Barbagallo, when they took their first win of the season with the brand new Ford Falcon FG X, and have now won an unprecedented 13 of the last 15 races.
“It was great to see Chaz get back on the top step and for the team to win all three races,” said team principal Tim Edwards reflecting on last weekend at Queensland Raceway.
“The guys are doing well and the cars are fantastic. It’s a credit to the team, we’re all working really well together and it’s showing. We have a great group of people and we wouldn’t be where we are without them.”
