Philippe Descombes makes it a double in Sepang
Philippe Descombes won again in a dominant fashion on the third race of the weekend at Sepang, Malaysia, taking two wins in the inaugural TCR Asia Series weekend. The Frenchman took the lead at the start and never left it and, helped by retirements and action behind him, finished over half a minute ahead of his nearest competitor, as Eric Kwong and Masahiko Ida completed the podium.
Drama started early on as once again Andy Yau had managed to bring his Ford Focus near the top in second place, only to be adandoned once again by his car at the end of the second lap. Two more failures for Honda drivers Michael Choi and Kenneth Lau put the duo out of contention, leaving Samson Chan, Eric Kwong and Filipe Souza to fight for second.
Drama was not over however as Chan and Souza collided, with the latter spinning and the Hong Kong driver awarded a drive through penalty he did not respect, thus triggering a black flag.
Descombes therefore won his second race of the day, with Eric Kwong and Masahiko Ida next to him on the podium. Liu Lic Ka came fourth, ahead of local drivers Fahrizal Hassan, Chan Siew Hong, Freddy Numan and Soh Kee Koon.
Next for the TCR Asia Series is Singapore on September, 20th.
