Stefano Comini delighted to take maiden pole position
Stefano Comini took pole position today at Singapore, claiming the championship lead back from Pepe Oriola’s hands in the process. The Swiss only did one run in the first segment of qualifying to preserve his tyres, knowing that the high temperatures and the León’s configuration will make things hard for him during the race.
“Finally, I made it! It’s great to conquer my first pole of the year, especially here at Singapore,” said a happy Comini. “It was difficult, but it’s done. The car was great, I felt comfortable with it since the beginning. I tried to preserve my tyres in Q1, doing only one flying lap, and that paid off.”
As the field gears up for its first night race ever, Comini thinks the lights will not be a problem as much as the close walls are: “We’ll see what happens during tonight’s race, my impression is that the lighting is really good, but still it will be a tough race, as the walls here are quite close.”
Comini is now back in the lead of the championship, two points ahead of Pepe Oriola.
