Warren Scott “bitterly disappointed” to miss out on title
Team BMR’s Warren Scott said he was “bitterly disappointed” to see Jason Plato miss out on the drivers’ championship at Brands Hatch, and said he would be learning from mistakes in communication in a bid to go one better next year.
Team BMR wrapped up the teams’ championship in Kent and Colin Turkington retained the independents’ crown, but Plato lost out on the drivers’ title by four points to Honda Yuasa Racing’s Gordon Shedden.
The battle was thrown into sharp focus after race two when Plato openly criticised Aron Smith on ITV, accusing him of not playing the team game in the championship fight.
“I’m bitterly disappointed we didn’t win the championship, we were so close. But we had a great year, we’ve won several titles including some support championships. It’s just difficult when it’s a couple of points,” said Scott to TouringCarTimes.
“There are a lot of good teams in this paddock and they will all come back stronger next year – we’ve just got to make sure we do the same.
“I’m very fortunate I’ve got a fantastic team and as a team boss I’ve learned a huge amount today. There’s been a couple of mistakes which I won’t allow to happen again.”
Asked to elaborate on the point, Scott added: “Just making sure the communications through the team are correct, and everybody understands what we need to do.”
With the silly season already underway, Scott said he was already looking forward to coming back as a driver – but the car the team will be using is still up in the air.
“We’re still looking at that. I’d love to tell you what we’re doing but we don’t know ourselves,” said Scott.
“Driving-wise, in such a competitive field I was usually midfield, and I’m over the moon with that. I’m looking forward to coming back next year.”
