Jordi Gené sure “the others will arrive”

Jordi Gené was fastest in today’s testing session at Buriram, Thailand. The Craft-Bamboo Lukoil driver was over one tenth quicker than team-mate Pepe Oriola, who is also a rival in the title fight.

The Spaniard is happy with the car: “It’s absolutely how I want it, the car is very good,” said Gené to TouringCarTimes. “Both Pepe and I were very quick and I’m sure we will be competitive this weekend.”

Talking about the coming weekend, though, Gené believes the opposition will fight back: “I think we must not get carried away by this result. I know (Stefano) Comini will be closer tomorrow, and so will Gianni (Morbidelli), so it’s good that we were able to perform well straight out of the pits, but tomorrow will be a different story.”

The SEAT driver’s capability to reach the limit quickly will be a major plus for him in Macau: “On normal tracks it’s quite easy to improve from Free Practice 0 to Qualifying, but in Macau it’s all different, so if I can be near the limit straight away it will be a huge advantage. There are some people who have not raced there, it will be tough for them. I think that the experience in Italy (in the Campionato Italiano Turismo Endurance with SEAT Motorsport Italia) was positive, as it kept me sharp. Hopefully I can score valuable points this weekend, starting from tomorrow, so I will be able to play my cards in Macau.”

Jordi Gené is currently 30 points behind championship leader Stefano Comini.
