Munkong Sathienthirakul happy with TCR Asia pole position
Munkong Sathienthirakul came 12th in today’s Qualifying session at his home track in Buriram, Thailand. The local hero, nicknamed ‘Turbo’, was also the first TCR Asia Series driver to qualify for the second segment of Qualiying.
“It wasn’t really expected,” admitted the Thai. “I have a lot to learn this weekend, as this is my first time with the car and in the TCR.”
Although he had looked much quicker than 12th at some stages of the weekend, Sathienthirakul believes that finding the last few tenths is not easy: “Frankly, I had expected a little bit faster lap time, but at this stage to try to improve may be very tricky, as you have to be much harder with the car.”
When asked if he would focus on the TCR Asia Series win and avoid fighting with the International Series drivers, the Thai was very honest: “I can’t see who is who from the car, I will just try to push and have fun and if I can overtake someone I will do it.”
Sathienthirakul will start both races from 12th tomorrow.
