Sergey Afanasyev happy with podium and Craft-Bamboo Lukoil 1-2-3

Sergey Afanasyev completed the Craft-Bamboo Lukoil 1-2-3 in Race 1 at Buriram, Thaliand, as the Russian climbed on the bottom step of the podium. A nice fight with Kevin Gleason ended up with Afanasyev prevailing and taking a trophy home.

“This is the best weekend for us since Valencia, we had a 1-2-3, so it’s great for Craft-Bamboo Lukoil and for SEAT,” cheered the Russian. “The car was good all weekend long, ever since Free Practice, so that felt really good.”

Talking about the first race, Afanasyev was worried WestCoast Racing’s Kevin Gleason would cause more problems than he actually did: “In the first race I had a good start, we pulled away, which was good. I was worried (Kevin) Gleason would make contact with me at some point but I was wrong, the Honda driver was very correct and I managed to pull away a little in the end, so it was good.”

In the second race the fight with Liqui Moly Team Engstler’s Lorenzo Veglia was harder: “The second race was quite different, I had a few contacts, some people misjudge the distances, but it can happen, that’s racing. I am happy to have had such a good result in front of a very warm crowd, there were a lot of spectators today and Buriram is a very nice venue.”

Next up for the TCR International Series is the Macau season finale.
