Stefano Comini admits Macau will be difficult
Despite a troubled weekend Stefano Comini retained the lead in the championship in Buriram, Thailand, with a win in Race 2, although the advantage is now down to 2 points.
The win was a reward for a tough weekend: “It was a difficult weekend for us, in Qualifying I even struggled to stay in the top ten and I think that is not possible. We tried everything we could as a team, we changed the gearbox, the intercooler, the turbo, but the car is still not okay. It was not easy to deal with.”
Talking about the second race, the Target Competition driver admitted: “I was lucky to start on pole position and I stayed in the lead, but it was also thanks to my team-mate Loris Hezemans who kept a great driver such as Pepe behind to finish second, it became a good 1-2 for the team.”
Talking about the title going to the wire in Macau, Comini admits he will be in a difficult position in the former Portuguese colony: “I wanted to create a gap before Macau and now it’s difficult, because I will actually have a disadvantage due to my lack of experience there. I did try it on the simulator, but I know it’s all different, the walls are going to be real!”
When asked how he would solve the problems he had with his car, the Swiss replied to TouringCarTimes: “I have no idea. The car is now leaving to Macau and we will have to work, together with SEAT and the team, to find the problem and solve it. I have no plans for Macau, really, I’m just sure it will be fun.”
Comini will enter the final race with a 2-points advantage over Craft-Bamboo Lukoil’s Pepe Oriola.
