Stefano Comini furious with persistent and frustrating car issues

Stefano Comini finished the first race in Buriram, Thailand, in fifth. With Craft-Bamboo Lukoil’s Pepe Oriola winning the race, this means the Swiss loses the lead of the championship.

“I am absolutely furious,” said Comini to TouringCarTimes. “We changed half of the car, gearbox, intercooler, turbo, but we still can’t get to the bottom of the problem. We need to do something!”

Talking about the race, the Target Competition driver did his best: “I have to stay off the kerb out of the first corner, otherwise the car loses speed, it has some kind of electrical blackout, which is frustrating as this morning the car was good, maybe because the conditions were cooler. I did the best I could do.”

With the championship lead now lost, Comini wants to have a good second race: “I have Hugo Valente next to me in the Opel Astra OPC. That car is quick on straights, and I don’t know if I have the pace to stay in front of him if I manage to pass him. I wish Gianni (Morbidelli) had won the race, so he would have taken points away from Pepe (Oriola), but that gives me extra motivation to put on a good show in the second race.”
