Marcos Ambrose not likely to return as a driver in 2016
DJR Team Penske driver Marcos Ambrose will most likely not return to the V8 Supercars Championship in 2016 as either a co-driver or regular driver.
“I’ve talked to Marcos and he has made a decision that if he’s not the primary driver he doesn’t really want to be a co-driver. I respect him for that. He reminds me of Rick Mears when he came to me, won Indianapolis four times for us and then said ‘at this point I just don’t have it in my gut to go as hard as you have to’,” said Roger Penske to speedcafe.com.
Ambrose has himself not spoken on the subject, but DJR Team Penske has stated that he is likely to remain in the team in a commercial capacity in 2016.
The 39-year-old has claimed the V8 Supercars Championship title twice in 2003 and 2004, before heading to the US and NASCAR in 2005. Ambrose returned to the V8 Supercars Championship this season as a full-time driver but stepped back to co-driver only duties following the opening round in Adelaide.
