Small mistake costs Lorenzo Veglia precious track time
Lorenzo Veglia had a crash this morning in his Liqui Moly Team Engstler Volkswagen Golf. The young Italian, who makes his debut at the wheel of the SEAT León’s sister car, was caught out by the small differences between the two models.
“The Golf has a different balance and different brake bias, which caught me by surprise,” said Veglia to TouringCarTimes. “I knew the two cars wouldn’t be absolutely the same, but on a track such as this the tiniest difference can mean a lot.”
The Italian went on to explain the accident: “I was not on the limit, I think I was posting good lap times, but this is my first visit to Macau so I wanted to do as many laps as I could. Unfortunately on this track even if you are not going 100% you still struggle to understand what you can or can’t do. The car unsettled a little under braking, which caught me by surprise, and I went into the wall.”
Despite missing important track time on the difficult Guia circuit, the Liqui Moly Team Engstler driver sees the bright side of it: “I know I lost important laps, I wish I could have done more, every mile is precious in Macau. However, despite this set-back, I am happy that I only caused minor damage to the car and I will be able to do Free Practice 2. I will be a little more cautious.”
