Stefano Comini amazed with ‘incredible’ Macau
Championship leader Stefano Comini fell in love at first sight with the Guia Circuit. Right after the free practice session, the Swiss was charmed by the iconic street track.
“Macau is just incredible, it feels great to drive here,” said Comini to TouringCarTimes. “It is very, very challenging and it takes a lot of courage, which is my field, so I will use that throughout the weekend.”
The job will not be easy as this is the first visit to the track for the Swiss, but the results in the first free practice session were encouraging: “To be honest I did not expect to be so close to Pepe (Oriola). The gaps obviously look bigger here, but Rob Huff told me that if you are within six seconds off the pace in your first session then you are on the right track. I’m one second behind Pepe, I know I don’t have the easiest task ahead of me, and my lack of experience surely is a handicap, but I will still fight as hard as I can.”
With the difference between the Target Competition driver and his Craft-Bamboo Lukoil rival, Comini is under no illusion the championship is in his hands: “It’s all quite complicated, the difference is so slim you can’t really calculate and try to be tactical. You just have to give it as much as you can and hope for the best. Like I said, though, the result of the first session is encouraging and I can’t wait for the next session. I love this track!”
Despite his optimism, Comini is conscious he needs to work on both the car and his driving: “I don’t feel completely comfortable with the car, so there is work to do. I also know I have to shave a lot off my lap time, which is good, because I know the limit is a little further ahead. I just need to drive as fast as I can!”
