Rob Huff would have liked the challenge of a reversed grid race
Rob Huff has been dominant so far in Macau in his Honda Civic TCR, finishing on top in both practice sessions in the older step Civic TCR. The Brit was fastest in both free practice sessions, with a margin of over a second from title contender Pepe Oriola.
“The car feels good, it gives me confidence,” said Huff to TouringCarTimes. “I knew I would be quick but this is Macau, so you never know.”
The Brit explained his feelings ahead of the weekend: “I am relaxed, but I am also aware that here you have control over 50% of what happens, another 50% is up to the others, so you never know. I have a lot of respect for this track.”
Speaking of tomorrow’s qualifying, the seven-times race winner at the Circuito Da Guia says the early morning session will be new for him.
“We did have a warm up session early in the morning in the World Touring Car Championship, but qualifying is different. The track should actually be quicker because the temperatures will be lower, so that should give more grip. It all depends on the amount of dust and the crashes which could happen during the day, so you can’t be sure.”
Huff is also disappointed the reversed grid was dropped this weekend: “To be honest I am quite upset. If I do get pole, then I would have liked to take on the challenge of trying to get two wins, starting from P10. Still, it’s going to be an interesting weekend.”
Huff is the only previous double winner in a weekend at Macau, winning both races in 2011 with Chevrolet, though in both races he started from the front-row due that season’s controversial Q1 top ten reversed qualifying system.
