Stefano Comini optimistic despite not being able to be on the limit

Stefano Comini was third in today’s free practice in Macau. The Swiss, who is making his debut at the Circuito Da Guia, is still not happy with the way he and his car are performing at the moment.

“I still have work to do,” admitted the championship leader to TouringCarTimes. “The car still has some issues which we need to solve. I know that this track needs a ‘safer’ set up, but I don’t like the way the car behaves and we need to work on that.”

Comini admits his lack of experience in Macau, coupled with it being Target Competition’s first visit in the former Portuguese colony, makes the task even more difficult.

“I know I still have a margin, but so does the car. In general, I think we still have a few issues with the car, but to be honest so do I. It is going to be really hard to fine tune myself, as well as changing the car, because this track is really challenging. I like it so much, but it’s still very tricky.”

Comini is still confident he can catch title rival Pepe Oriola in qualifying: “I am getting closer to Pepe, which is good. I know I need to be around him – although I would prefer being ahead – in qualifying and then play it by ear, putting all the courage I have into it and giving it everything I can get out of my heart. I want to win the championship.”

Comini leads by two points over Pepe Oriola, with Jordi Gené a further 32 points adrift.
