Campionato Italiano Turismo gears up for its TCR future
The Campionato Italiano Turismo (Italian Touring Car Championship) will host a launch at Monza tomorrow ahead of its 2016 season, with the Italian series becoming the latest to adopt TCR regulations as well as introduce a new TCS specification sub-class as its technical blueprint.
Cars on display will include a number of the top contenders from last year’s TCR International Series, including the JAS Motorsport developed Honda Civic TCR, the Top Run Motorsport Subaru WRX STi, the Romeo Ferraris Alfa Romeo Giulietta and the Volkswagen Golf TCR.
A few TCS class cars will also be on display, including the Peugeot 308 GTI Sport of 2T Course & Reglage and Abruzzo Corse’s Volkswagen Polo GTI.
JAS Motorsport have also today confirmed they will be developing a TCS specification Honda Civic TCS for the championship in addition to their TCR contender.
The Campionato Italiano Turismo (CIT) is one of two championships to adopt TCR specification cars for 2016 while maintaining their brand identity. While TCR Asia, Deutschland and BeNeLux will run with TCR branding, CIT joins the FIA’s European Touring Car Cup in adopting TCR regulations as the top tier while retaining their historic name.
The 2016 Campionato Italiano Turismo season will feature two 30 minute practice sessions with two 15 minute qualifying sessions, which each session’s results setting the grids for the two races.
CIT will also allow cars to be shared at race weekends, meaning one driver can compete in one of the qualifying sessions and the respective race, before handing over to their co-driver.
Hankook will provide tyres for the championship, while teams interested in taking part and will be present at the media launch include Target Competition, Proteam Racing, Promotorsport, Turbo Car, Fratelli Abate, Audi Sport Italia, Autostar, Bf Racing, Faro Racing, Carenini Racing, Team Dinamic, Nos, DT Motorsport, Team Ferlito, Vaccari Motori, Bacci, Abarth Squadra Corse, Rangoni Motorsport, Nocentini, Team Giudici and Brixia Motorsport.
