JAS Motorsport to promote ‘Young Start’ programme with new Civic TCS in Italy
JAS Motorsport introduced the Honda Civic TCS, which will be allowed to race in the lower class of the Campionato Italiano Turismo, based on TCR regulations. The Italian factory already announced they will have at least one team using the TCR version of the car, and plans to help young drivers with the TCS version will be announced soon.
“It’s a new direction we care about a lot,” said JAS Motorsport President and co-founder Maurizio Ambrogetti. “We will shortly announce a programme called Young Start. We believe the TCS class of the Campionato Italiano Turismo could be a great platform to start from, an entry-level for a youngster who doesn’t want to only focus on single seaters.”
After several years of involvement in touring cars, JAS figured the new series was a perfect way to start a programme to help young drivers: “JAS always had a strong connection with the touring car world and it seemed a perfect fit to promote a programme for young drivers, perhaps coming from karting, to offer them an alternative for their careers. We want to open up a new opportunity, different from single seaters, but just as progessional. We will surely share this project with out technical partners to grant a concrete help as well. We will present the programme soon.”
JAS recently announced Norbert Michelisz as their third works driver in the FIA World Touring Car Championship, the Hungarian also having started his career as a privateer in touring cars before moving on to a manufacturer-backed driver from this season.
