Michael and Sebastiaan Bleekemolen to contest TCR Benelux curtain raiser
Michael and Sebastiaan Bleekemolen will be in Spa Francorchamps for the inaugural meeting of the TCR Benelux season at the wheel of a SEAT León Cup Racer. The father and son team have only confirmed their presence for the first race so far: “For now it is a one-shot,” said the 66-year-old Michael. “We are not yet quite sure about budgets and we also have to take Sebastian’s other racing activities into account. We really believe in the TCR concept and didn’t want to miss this first appointment. The car is still under construction at SEAT Sport in Spain and should be delivered sometime in March.”
Michael Bleekemolen has one of the best racing pedigrees in Europe, with outings in Formula One and second in the European F3 championship behind Alain Prost, but despite his age he has no intention to stop racing: “I’ve been living on four wheels for 50 years!”, said the Dutch legend. “I never thought about stopping. I can still compare to my sons Sebastiaan and Jeroen, who will race in the Blancpain Series this year, and perhaps I’m afraid of falling into a black hole. What else could I do if I hung the helmet?”
TCR Benelux will start in Spa on May 22nd.
