James Nash promises better racecraft in Portugal
James Nash scored a double podium in his touring car comeback. The Craft-Bamboo Lukoil driver enjoyed himself despite some small issues with his SEAT León.
“If you thought the racing looked good from the outside, then you should have seen it from where I was sat,” said the Brit. “I made good starts in both races and made up places. I’d obviously liked to have been able to keep the lead for longer in race one but remember, this was my first weekend back in a touring car in over two years and I was up against guys who’d raced these cars at the sharp end of the field last year.”
Nash promises the rust will no longer be there when the series returns to action in Portugal: “There was bound to be a bit of rustiness in my race craft that won’t be there next time. I’d also liked to have been able to have another go at Pepe in Race 2 but unfortunately the tyres weren’t in the best shape towards the end, so rather than keep fighting I thought it better to keep the strong podium I’d got and bag the points for another day.”
After his first experience at the wheel of the León, Nash wants more: “I’m really looking forward to Portugal next time out particularly now that I’ve got a much better feel for the car than I had before we arrived here on Wednesday.”
The Brit currently sits second in the standings, 15 points behind points leader and team-mate Pepe Oriola.
