Warren Scott: “I’m very proud of the boys, they need a pat on the back”
Team BMR team principal and driver Warren Scott was delighted with Team BMR’s performance in the opening three rounds of the 2016 BTCC season, especially when three of the four Subaru Levorg’s hadn’t turned a wheel when they arrived at the circuit.
With just 87 days between the start of the build process and the opening practice session, Team BMR always faced a race against time, one that many thought was too much of an ask, but they duly delivered, with four brand new cars taking to the track for free practice one on Saturday morning.
“We’re very happy, we obviously would’ve liked more but we’ve got to be realistic,” Scott told TouringCarTimes. “We got here on Friday evening and we hadn’t tested them, we’d put them up in a straight line but never taken them around a corner so we had no idea what to expect. To do what we’ve done, and the most impressive thing is the lap times Jason and Colin have been able to bring in the races they were in, they were up there with the top lap times, it’s there or thereabouts. We know we’re down on horsepower but we’ll be working on that, the engine itself its fantastic, it’s slightly down on top end, but we’re not worried, it just needs time.”
Despite having little to no running before the Brands Hatch weekend, the team still came away with points on the board, but Scott was more impressed with the data that they were able to take away from the meeting.
“I’m very proud of the boys that we’ve got a lot of data out of this weekend,” he said. “We had a couple of issues that we solved. Most sessions we were out, we had a drive shaft snap for me in the first race, we can’t foresee that, it’s one of those things. They all need a pat on the back for the cracking job they’ve done on these cars.”
With Donington Park just two weeks away, Scott refused to say that the next meeting would be treated like an extended test session, with results still at the forefront of his mind alongside improving the cars as much as possible.
“We still have faith in the car, we need to find that bit of horsepower but we need to find handling as well and we’ll keep plugging away and trying to get the best results we can.”
