Jordi Oriola to take part in Opel Astra TCR development

Jordi Oriola scored eight points in the inaugural TCR International Series weekend in Bahrain. The Spaniard will now have to focus on development in his Opel Astra TCR, as the German manufacturer, together with Target Competition, decided to skip the Estoril race this weekend in order to focus on testing.

Oriola will be behind the wheel, testing a new engine next week: “The development of the Opel Astra TCR has been very positive and in the next following weeks we will work on the set up of the car,” said the 19-year-old. “I have to work on the car’s development to be competitive on the grid of the TCR. I do not deny that I would have liked to be in Estoril where I competed last year with SEAT Leon Eurocup, but the most important thing is to know how our real options in the TCR are.”

The Opel project is ambitious and the car will need to undergo testing and improvements in order to be properly competitive in TCR: “This season we will try to be on top positions in the coming races. I did it in Barhain and with the team we will work together to make the Opel Astra TCR competitive in this championship.”

The rest of the field will race this weekend in Portugal at Estoril, for the second event of the TCR International Series.
