Dusan Borkovic suffers a pointless weekend in Estoril

Dusan Borkovic scored no points in Portugal as his weekend was radically changed by a crash out of Turn 3 early in the qualifying session, which meant the B3 Racing driver started from 17th for both races.

Although penalties for WestCoast Racing’s Kevin Gleason and Top Run’s Luca Rangoni meant the Serbian started from 15th in the second race, an early contact after a pile-up which involved team-mates Attila Tassi and Mat’o Homola ended up with Borkovic hitting a car in front of him.

The contact was enough to damage the cooling system, which sent the temperatures of his engine sky high and forced him to retire in the pits with smoke coming out of the engine of his SEAT León TCR.

As a result the Serbian stays on 27 points, all collected at the season opener in Bahrain, which leaves him down in seventh behind Leopard Racing’s Jean-Karl Vernay.

“I am really disappointed,” said Borkovic. “We worked hard to improve up to qualifying. I was fast and showed it in FP2, but the feeling of the car and the crash in the second race were unexpected. I couldn’t continue the race after the crash because of the engine problems.

“We still don’t know why I have this much oversteer but I hope with the information from the races and the test and we will be more prepared for the next racing weekend and the rest of the season. We have 18 more races ahead of us.”
