Angry Dusan Borkovic hits out at Gianni Morbidelli for Race 2 contact
B3 Racing’s Dusan Borkovic has laid the blame squarely at WestCoast Racing Honda driver Gianni Morbidelli for an incident in Race 2 at Spa-Francorchamps, with both drivers eliminated from the race on the first lap.
Morbidelli and Borkovic made contact at the turn in to Les Combes on the opening lap, with Borkovic’s SEAT León TCR suffering damage front-left suspension and with Morbidelli losing a tyre and was forced to retire, scoring no points in race two and thus losing his championship lead to the Craft-Bamboo Lukoil pair of Pepe Oriola and James Nash.
“I was braking for Turn 7 on the inside, but Morbidelli was on the outside,” said Borkovic to TouringCarTimes. “He thinks he can overtake me like I was a backmarker. Of course I was inside underbraking, and he just closed the door.
“I think Gianni is hitting everybody like this, he destroyed my race thinking he’s a superstar. He couldn’t wait for one or two laps and try and overtake me cleanly. There’s a whole season to go, and he’s trying to win the championship in one race, and he won’t win the championship like this.”
Morbidelli didn’t comment on the incident following the race, with the stewards ruling that there was no case to answer with the collision ruled as a racing incident.
