Holden moves Holden Racing Team to Triple Eight

Holden has confirmed at least three more years in the V8 Supercars and a move of the official Holden Racing Team brand from Walkinshaw Racing to Triple Eight Race Engineering.

“Triple Eight will develop, build, race and I’m sure win with the next generation Commodore Supercar from 2018. It’s a great move for Holden that reinforces with our fans and our customers our commitment to motorsport and especially our long term future in this country,” said Mark Bernhard, Holden Chairman and Managing Director.

The move means that the current Holden Racing Team, run by Walkinshaw Racing, will no longer have factory status from 2017.

“I’d also like to thank and pay homage to Walkinshaw Racing with whom we have shared a proud history over many years,” said Bernhard.

“We’ll also continue to help Walkinshaw wherever we can. We support every Holden team in pit lane through various avenues such as marketing support, technical support, sponsorship acquisition, even down to helping design certain race liveries. We’ll continue that with Walkinshaw and I wish them all the best. Our relationship with Walkinshaw remains strong and we are working closely on future road vehicle initiatives as part of our ongoing HSV relationship.”

Holden are yet to confirm what engine the next generation Holden Commodore will use in 2018, either the current V8 engine or a smaller turbo engine of the new Gen2 regulations.
