Mat’o Homola hoping the rain stays away at technical Buriram circuit

Slovakian driver Mat’o Homola hopes the forecasted rain stays away for Sunday for the eighth round of the TCR International Series at Buriram, though is comfortable with his wet weather performance should it not.

The weather forecast and conditions in the Buri Ram region have been changing throughout the last few days, with heavy rain hitting the circuit on Wednesday before a dry, humid but overcast day on Thursday ahead of testing.

Heavy rain is forecast throughout this afternoon’s four-hour test session at the Chang International Circuit, with rain again projected throughout the weekend.

“The forecast is changing every day,” said Homola to TouringCarTimes. “At the moment is says rain, but a few days ago it said we’d have none (on Sunday), then it changed and now it’s a lot of rain, so we will see. The climate is different here, so the situation after it does rain will be very different in terms of how the track dries.

“It’ll be a bit of a lottery. I hope it will be dry, though I do like driving in the wet but in the dry I have more experience.”

The B3 Racing SEAT driver will be experiencing the Thai circuit for the first time this weekend, while a number of his rivals in the championship, including the top two drivers Stefano Comini and Pepe Oriola are already familiar with the FIA Grade 1 circuit from last season.

“It looks really nice. I like fast tracks and this is one of them. It’s also very technical in the second sector, so we’ll find out how good it is for us later, but my first feeling is very good.

“There are a few corners which are really important to drive very well, and quite a few places which are good for overtaking. The track is well designed for racing.”
